Portraiture
Portrait art is a powerful way of acknowledging a loved one or important person in one’s life. Finding the right portrait artist can be challenging. The most basic requirement of any portraiture is an accurate depiction of the subject. Beyond that, portraits really should embody the subject’s personality or life force. That’s where the talent of the artist comes in.
If you’re interested in commissioning a portrait, please review my previous work. In attempting to capture a person’s likeness on a canvas or on paper I strive to keep them alive, as if they’ve just moved or are about to.

This is a portrait I did of my former girlfriend, Sheila Kappeler. Here you see the photograph I used as the basis for the final painting. Working from a photograph ensures the ability to capture a person’s likeness while allowing for more embellishment, improvisation and life in the actual execution of the piece.
This is the finished portrait, painted in acrylic, of Sheila. It measures 22″ X 28″, just slightly smaller than the standard “poster” size.
